Hi, there! I’m Vivian Ngai (she/her), a Senior Product Designer, currently working at Xero. I have been involved around the tech community in Toronto, particularly around civic tech and advocacy for diversity and inclusion. I mentor new designers on ADPList. I also created, designed and manage takecare19, a crowd-sourced collection of accessible (free/low-cost) and inclusive mental health resources to cope through COVID-19.
Ethos
I’m a curiosity-driven and holistic user experience designer with an interdisciplinary background in social research, marketing, and design. I was drawn to UX because it’s a perfect combination of bridging critical thinking and empathy. I use design as a process for designing/re-designing digital products that help make life a bit easier for people.
Background
I’ve completed an immersive Diploma program in UX Design. I also hold an M.A., and B.A. in sociology, psychology and marketing. I’ve worked in academia, market research, a social enterprise start-up, and started my own business collaborating with other change-making entrepreneurs as a graphic and web (WordPress) designer. Being self-employed gave me first-hand experience of what the pain points are, the competitive landscape, and goals of (small) businesses. My varied background and multiple passions allow me to bring in diverse perspectives and the ability to adapt, see the big picture, and bring it all together.
Personal
I’m an INFJ, and in addition to design, am interested in personal development, social justice/equity/inclusivity, bullet journalling, stationery, painting, interior decorating, travel, raw chocolate, mental health, talking about feelings, and hanging in hammocks. I’m also a dog-sitter! Make your own magic ✨
