In 2015, it was clarity.
A few years ago, I moved away from new year resolutions and opted for setting an intention. Partly inspired by the practice in yoga classes, and partly inspired by being more feelings-driven via Danielle Laporte’s Desire Map*, I’ve set an intention for each year. It gives me a focus. It gives me a guide for decision-making. Would saying “yes” to this result in more __________? Does this habit make me feel _________? Does having this person in my life make me feel ___________?
It’s deliciously feminine, which is a complement to the hard goals that come with entrepreneurship. It’s not really something you can “fail” at, or do wrong. You determine what it means to you. It’s also a hope for the new year – something you practice daily to feel more of in your day-to-day life.
Freedom and clarity as still up on what I need in my life. This year, for both my business and personal life, my intention, word, theme, hope, is: ease.
Complementing words that have also come up to me is flow, light (feeling light; but also being the light), shine.
of abundance flowing in,
of love flowing in,
of joy flowing in,
of peace flowing in,
of health flowing in,
of creativity flowing in,
of opportunities flowing in.
of fear flowing out,
of toxic relationships flowing out,
of stress/anxiety flowing out,
of what does not serve me, flowing out.
Lately, I’ve been feeling stressed and anxious- which really is something I’ve battled all my life. My Type-A, perfectionist tendencies aren’t helpful for this. My body’s been feeling like it’s needing more TLC, and my mind and spirit are craving some time-off. This has made me really want to dedicate myself to ensuring my day-to-day life feels more easy, effortless, and light. Some days it can be overwhelming – and it doesn’t have to be! I will be working on 1) self-care like meditation and moving (because I’ve been in front of my computer way too much!) and 2) letting go/surrendering of control. Because that translates to distrust and therefore repels all the good stuff trying to easily flow in.
Business-wise, this means figuring out what I really love doing and focusing more on those tasks/services and getting rid of the others. This means sticking to procedures, and boundaries with clients. This also means finding the ways I enjoy working and honouring those.
I know a lot of this will come from a subtle mindset change (stop taking everything so seriously!), and getting back into self-care practices to bring balance. I’ve already been adding in 15 minutes of free flow movement in the morning again thanks to my beautiful coach! Next stops: scheduling more fun activities out, and unplugging a few hours before sleeping. Do you have any suggestions? Would love to hear!
What are your new year practices? What is your intention for 2016?
Here’s to a 2016, that’s full of ease!
